I have not been on the train all week. Been driving my car. Now I am scared. Perhaps I should take my chances with the idiots driving cars rather than the poor safety standards on the GO train.

I recieved this really pathetic electronic letter (in mass mailing) from the GO Transit President today. What a fine speciman of leadership he is. I will be sure to respond and write by informing him I do not feel safe, nor do I accept that the management at GO transit has my best interests at heart when we all know that staff reduction (reduced Engineers) equals cost savings. I will be sure to remind him, as well, that appropriate staffing and safety is ultimately the responsibility of CN Management. The GO transit screw ups are directly related to poor Management and most certainly poorly managed change. There is no excuse for any of it, in my opinion.

Hey Karla: Don't be upset with Brian's comment. The intentions of his comment were not to insult you or other Conductors. He is upset about losing the 2nd Engineer, not the quality of your role or work. Remember: GO Transit Management LOVES it when its staff/fellow union members start in-fighting. They win if you let them. Don't concede, girlfriend. You guys have to stick together.

Thank you LISA.I was tired, & exactly as you said, with both items...KARLA knows that...I here that commuters think engineers make lots of $$$ some of these people should try the long long early to late hours we work,11+ hrs or splits,do they know when we eat dinner, sleep,or even go to bathroom,(not allowed at work, his investigation going on today..)Throw in the responsibility. Its defenitly not management fault?Sitting at desk, double dipping, huge bonus,pensions...THEY DONT EVEN KNOW WHAT AN ENGINEER DOES!!!the papers are full of stories & UNTRUTHS that big co.will allow to be printed...DO THE PEOPLE THINK THAT A GO TRAIN CAN GET FROM A -to- B MORE TIMELY with ONE ENGINEER.they may save a few cents... There I go again giving another 2 cents...

WOW Lisa, you are more in the sisterhood than some of our brothers in our Union. I knew that you were an honorable person and I praise you for your words of wisdom toward Karla. I'm trying to fight back in this battle cause of our but sometime I feel hopeless as our Brother and Sister seem to think or tend to say that the union is doing nothing for them.
And, as you say we start to bickered at each other instead of sticking together.
Your wonderful sister and keep the good words.
Pierre

Yes, I am very much a trade unionist at heart. I think it is one of my finer qualities but some might not agree...I used to be the local Vice President of the ONA in a downtown teaching hospital and handled the grievances in our local for 5 years...back in my 'previous life'...went through many 'political health care events' in the 1990's (hospital downsizing and restructuring) in my industry so I understand the dynamics of your current crisis. And you are right, Pierre: the perception is often that the union is not 'doing enough' but I think more often than not, the union is actively doing their job and addressing the memeberships best interest but fear, powerless, and uncertainty of the future feeds into the 'blame the union leadership' mentality. One of the greatest challenges during any crisis a union undergoes is to maintain Solidarity which is the core of the trade union's power.
