As if there are not enough reasons already to hate celebrating birthdays, as we age. I have the ultimate kick in the pants for you, folks.
I applied for an internal posting for a position specifically requiring Nursing qualifications/registration....3 jobs were available for prospective candidates. I went through the process, wrote and passed the work sample and interview making me what is deemed a Qualified Candidate for the position.
Today, I was advised that my Seniority date is tied with another equally qualified candidate. Because we have the same date of hire (Seniority Date), the manager had to defer to the Tie Breaking Rules under the Collective Agreement.
And so I lost. Due to my BIRTH DATE!!!
As if getting old and watching your breast sag is not enough! I refuse to celebrate my birthday this year.
Bring on the booze! I really can't beat that . I need a really good wallow if anyone is up for one later this week.

Are you saying they go with the younger candidate?? Is that legal?? Doesn't that make as much sense as going with the candidate with the biggest breasts? Most perfect teeth? Best ass? What does your birthday have to do with your ability to perform the job?
I need an explanation...
Bay and Front, 4:15pm this Friday! (Like I'll fall for that one again!)
I thought women all lied about their age anyway?!?
Anyway, sorry to hear. Wasn't meant to be this time..
Christy: No, it is not ageism. I would never accept that and a CUPE C.A. would not be set up to have an article that contradicted the HRC, as you know. The tie breaking rule takes into account your birth date but only the month and day (not the year). My comments about birthday age related babbling breast sagging is just me sounding off. At least there is a defined process although it does feel much like a coin toss nonetheless since I could have had also worked in my favour. I am just really disappointed. It must have been 'meant to be' and perhaps I have been left open for a better opportunity that is on the horizen, right??? Miss Spiritual/Philosopher here...
So I guess beers Friday are out for you, Billy? Too bad.
I am reading breast and beer... Friday night sounds good! I owe you a Corona!
Allright!! I am on! I finish at about 4:30! Anyone game???? (pervert - breast and beer...)
Hey Lisa, sorry to hear that the job opp didn't come through, but, just as you said, something more promising is on the horizon, I can sense it.
I have plans on Friday night, oh my, I feel like I'm always declining the drinking fests. Let me know where you'll be and I'll try to pop over for one drink. I hear Phil's buying a round of Corona's.
So, what kind of a neon sign would I need to get noticed standing on the corner?
Maybe we just need to name the bar and the last one there picks up the tab (or, the first round anyway..) Umm, there's a bar just downstairs from where I work..
I can't go... not coming in either Thursday or Friday - March Break plans!
Stay tuned for details of an exciting in-train event planned for Monday and Tuesday, though!! I will post tonight/tomorrow!! Mmmmm.
oops.. just remembered that I will be out of town on Friday.. raincheck Lisa?
As much as I'd like to hang around on the corner of Front and Bay again this week, it looks like I'll be attending a funeral on Friday. So get sloshed for me too Lisa and we'll definitely do a rain-check thingy. Have one or three for me.. (..and put it on Phil's tab..)
Wow, sorry to hear that Bill. I am sorry for your loss.
Raincheck for everyone - no one can make it. Just as well. Now I can make friends with my friend, Nanook.
